It will also cover the pros and provide answers to some of the frequently asked questions relating to this flooring. Note that, over time, the Company will evolve to address some of the flaws mentioned in this post.

7 Major Coretec Flooring Problems

a. COREtect Not Eco-Friendly

If you are someone that is concerned about the environment and how products affect the environment, then this is a major concern for you. Although COREtec flooring is certified by GreenGuard, the product is not 100% safe.

Most Luxury Vinyl Plank floors have Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). But COREtec is made with Virgin Vinyl Construction which makes the VOCs content very low. That does make it 100% safe because there are still traces of the chemical in the product. The chemical can make you prone to respiratory sickness when exposed to it for some time.

The best alternative is natural flooring types like hardwood floors with no trace of VOCs or other harmful chemicals.

b. Peels and Curls Overtime

Durability is one factor most people check when buying a floor. The COREtec floor is not as durable as other floor types like hardwood floors. Over time, the COREtec floor especially when used in a high traffic area peels. Also, the glue on the edges of the planks wears off and it causes your floor to curl leaving the floor and room to look untidy.

The solution to the curling issue is to repair it as soon as you notice. Remove the debris and dust from the curled edges. Rub adhesive on the part and press down together.

c. Floor Scratches Easily

The thick top layer of the COREtec flooring protects it against minor scratches. This doesn’t mean that the product is scratch-proof. When you drag heavy furniture across the floor, it will leave noticeable scratch marks. You won’t experience this issue with flooring types like tiles.

There are two ways to remedy the situation. The first is to make sure you use a furniture pad to cover the legs of heavy furniture before you drag across it the floor. The second option is to go for COREtec products with rustic design patterns. The product helps to disguise scratch marks on the floor and make them less noticeable.

d. Some Products Have Cushioning Problems

Underlayment is important for most floor types. It helps to cushion the floor and improves the floor’s ability to absorb sound and insulate heat. Most COREtec products have cork underlayment except the COREtec One product.

Although the COREtec One product is cheap and pocket-friendly, it lacks cushioning. This makes the floor hard and uncomfortable to walk on. Also, the product cannot absorb sound and insulate heat.

The solution is to go for premium COREtec products with proper underlay. Just know that you will pay more for products in that category.

e. Warranty Issues

Most high-quality flooring products come with warranties, and that includes the COREtec flooring. The terms and coverage of the warranties depend on the product. The COREtec One product comes with 25-years warranties. While the COREtec Plus and COREtec Plus One products one with limited lifetime warranties. The warranties cover the following:

Wear that occurs under normal use of the product. That means, it doesn’t cover for superficial wear like scratch marks.

  • Defects that occur in the process of manufacturing the product.
  • But a customer has to show proof of strict following of the installation guidelines  to get a claim approved.

f. Separating Issues

One issue you will have when you install a Luxury Vinyl Plank floor that the floor gets to bounce or move when you walk on them. This is especially true when the flooring is installed on an uneven surface. The COREtec floor also has this issue when installed on an uneven floor. Over time, the flooring will separate and expose the subfloor.

The way to avoid this issue is to make sure you level the subfloor with a leveling mix before installing the COREtec floor.

g. Issues When Installed Over Radiant Heat

It is not advisable to install Vinyl Plank flooring over radiant heat. That is especially true for COREtec flooring because of its underlayment. Installing the Vinyl Plank flooring over radiant heat damages the floor because the underlayment on the floor blocks the transfer of heat.

The solution to this issue is to go for the COREtec One product without the cork underlayment. It reduces the heat transfer problem when installed under radiant heat.

4 COREtec Flooring Pros

COREtec flooring products are not all about the cons. There are some advantages the flooring product has that makes it the go-to choice for thousands of buyers. There are some of the reasons why you should consider the COREtec flooring product:

a. Product Is Durable

Durability is one quality any high-quality flooring must have. COREtec floor products are known to be durable. The flooring comes with a wear layer that is 20 mils thicker than that of other Luxury Vinyl Plank brands. It makes it possible for the flooring to withstand scratch. That doesn’t mean you should drag heavy furniture across the floor.

b. It is Waterproof

Most high-quality floors are either waterproof or water-resistant. Water-resistant floors can withstand water but over time, the water can penetrate the floor and cause damage. On the other hand, a waterproof floor provides 100% protection against moisture. Water can’t penetrate the floor and there won’t be moisture-related damages.

COREtec flooring is waterproof, which means that you don’t have to worry about moisture issues when using COREtec. The flooring has multiple moisture-proof layers that make it moisture-proof. This makes it a good option for the bathroom and other rooms prone to moisture.

c. Pocket-Friendly Prices

When compared to other Luxury Vinyl Plank brands, COREtec is more expensive. That is not surprising considering that the product has a higher quality than most LVP brands in the market. On the other hand, when compared to other durable flooring types like hardwood, COREtec flooring is cheap. If you want flooring that looks similar to hardwood and you are on a low budget, COREtec is the option for you.

d. Comes With Underlayment

The importance of underlayment on an LVP floor cannot be overemphasized. It enhances soundproof features and makes the floor comfortable to walk on. Most of the COREtec floor products come with a cork underlay except the COREtec One product.
